In Memoriam

Dr Toshio Tatara (Japan)

 

The EAPU is saddened to hear that Dr Tatara passed away on Monday 23 April 2012.  His contribution to elder abuse research and awareness raising saw him involved in establishing a number of initiatives including being a founding member of the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse.  Dr Tatara was the 2005 Rosalie Wolf Memorial Award recipeint for his contribution to research into elder abuse and prevention.  The EAPU would like to extend our condolences to Dr Tatara’s family, friends and colleagues for their loss.

  • A Guide for Elder Abuse Protocols - was developped for community service organisations to assist them in designing elder abuse protocols for thier services.  It could also be helpful for professionals in the health, legal and financial sector, hospitals, multipurpose health centres and any other organisation that has a duty of care to older people.  It provides useful informaiton and things to consider.  Click here
  • Qld Focus Newsletter - September 2011 - this edition of the Elder Abuse Prevention newsletter features information to be aware of when considering a reverse mortgage. There is also a highlight of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day activities held in Victoria.  To read the newsletter Click Here
  • Joint Issues Paper:  elder abuse - the Queensland Law Society  has released a report from the consultations and interest into the report released last year on how well the law copes with elder abuse in Queensland.  To read the report  Click Here
  • Protecting Elder's Assets Study - Monash University received funding by the Victorian State Trustee to investigate how older Victorian's manage their finances and attitudes towards planning for old age.  To read the latest report Click Here

__ FREE information and awareness sessions for seniors groups throughout Queensland. 

     If you are interested in booking a session please call our Helpline. 

    The Events page has a list of when an EAPU worker will be in your area.

 

__ FREE training for service providers working with people who live in the community. 

    Please contact the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit for topic details and/or to book a session. 

 

__ Rural and remote services who would like to organise training are encouraged to     

    contact the EAPU and negotiate sessions to ensure they receive the times and dates 

    they would like.  Membership of the multidisciplinary Peer Support Network is   

    available  for rural and remote workers and three PSN teleconferences are conducted  

    throughout the year.

 

__ For services in the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast areas and Rockhampton

    surrounding areas, please contact us at your convenience if you wish to organise a   

    session.
