World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

The United Nations Assembly on Aging has designated 15 June as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.  

The International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse has resources and ideas on thier website for services or groups wishing to participate and help raise awareness of elder abuse in their community.

To promote this day the EAPU, supported by the Department of Communities, will host

 

A World of Ideas Forum & Expo 

 

Friday 13th June from 10am to 2pm in the Ground floor conference room 111 George St Brisbane City

 The event is free and will include a number of displays and speakers sharing ideas on elder abuse from the perspective of their "World".  Speakers will include:

  • The world of Media and Older People (Presenter Val French, Older People Speak Out)
  • The Aboriginal world (Presenter Kevin Bond, Chair of the Ministerial Senior’s Council and Aboriginal Elder)
  • The C.A.L.D. world (Presenter Agnes Whiten, Senior Vice Chair, Ethnic Communities Council)
  • The world of people with diminished capacity (Presenter Dianne Pendergast, Adult Guardian, Office of the Adult Guardian)
  • The Academic world (Presenter Professor Paul Mazerolle, Director, Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance, Griffith University)

Funding for Seniors Legal and Support Services

Congratulations to the Seniors Legal and Support Services on their approval for recurrent funding through the Department of Communities. 

 

The Seniors Legal and Support Services operate out of Brisbane, Cairns, Hervey Bay, Toowoomba and Townsville.
