Abuse in Aged Care
With the launch of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety there has been a much greater of awareness of elder abuse within aged care settings. Although older people can continue to be susceptible to abuse from family within residential aged care, abuse within aged care generally refers to abuse occurring between care staff and residents, or a resident and another resident.
In some circumstances, aged care staff are required to report abuse if there is a suspicion or allegation. The Australian Government sets out a guide for reportable assualts on their website:
Families and the general public are able to make a complaint to the respective aged care facilitiy and/or the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
